Day 3 (Monday): First Day at Service Sites

Ada

Today, we helped out at the boys and girls club. We saw really cute kids like Isabella, Sophia, and Isaac. Later, we went to the senior home to eat lunch. The funny thing was that we forgot our cooler with our lunches. Thank goodness there were cup noodles in our car. It was really fun [[; I named all the leaders and made friends with them. Sunshine, Flower, Daisy, Kangeroo, and Jay.

Large Group Gathering (LGG): discussion groups

Yasmine

Hi, today was our first day working for the community, we started off the morning helping at a boys and girls camp. Joni told me that the camp was for kids who  had a bad background, we loved playing with the kids, though there was some bullying. The afternoon we went to a senior home. It was a lot of fun talking to all the seniors. A little later we went to the Mexico border, but I stuck my hand through. We went down to the beach later, but we didn’t get wet.

Also, someone was mopping the floor and Tim and Wesley were fake fighting, then Tim went too far back, (know that Tim cannot do splits), he also did almost splits, slipped, and ended up wailing in pain on the floor.

How you can pray - Joni

  • There have been a number of frustrating situations in the last couple days and many of the youth are working hard to be patient, loving and helpful. I’m super proud of them.
  • For the Border Angels we encountered today (whose mission is to reduce the number of fatalities along the California border by placing life-saving water stations in the desert)
  • Praise God for only very mild carsickness and no vomiting. Everyone who felt mildly sick has recovered
  • Praise God that we were able to find the church without our GPS/phone today
  • Praise God that we were able to have some meaningful conversations with seniors, children and the homeless today
  • Praise God for some measure of team building; pray for it to continue as they work on loving one another
  • Pray for Aaron and Joni to be wise, patient, and caring.
  • Pray for many of the kids, seniors and homeless people we encountered today who do not have many people to love and care for them
There was a big fiesta on the Mexican side of the border with lots of families enjoying the beach.
The US side was empty apart from us.

Many of the team stuck their hands through the bars "into Mexico"
